Description

The Pleiades (M45, Seven Sisters) is the most famous open star cluster in the constellation Taurus. It is located at a distance of about 444 light years from Earth and is very visible to the naked eye. The Pleiades look like a smaller copy of the Big Dipper - six stars in a bluish haze, the seventh star - Pleione - is variable and changes its brightness over a certain period. The cloud of interstellar dust, which was clearly visible in the nine-hour exposure, surrounding the Pleiades, does not belong to the cluster and is an independent nebula. The Pleiades only fly through this dust cloud at a speed of 11 km/s.
