Description

Listed in the Sharpless Catalogue Sh2-174 as an Emission Nebula.

Listed in the Perek Kohoutek Catalogue PK 120+18.1 as a Planetary Nebula.

After much review and speculation, the popular Valentine Nebula has finally been consensually categorized as a Planetary Nebula with the discovery of a white dwarf in its middle with a high natural motion that carries its masses with it.

The problem was that the center of the hydrogen and the oxygen were at different points within the nebula. However, it has been found that the interaction with the interstellar medium causes the
hydrogen to lag behind from the oxygen because the ionized oxygen that is recombined with the free electrons is much faster than the ionized hydrogen and emits the characteristic turquoise radiation.

The Progenitor can be identified as the blue star where the hydrogen and oxygen meet.

Thanks, Eddie
