Description

The Pelican Nebula is situated at a distance of approximately 1,800 light years with a visual magnitude of 8.0. It is separated from the larger North America nebula by a dark molecular cloud. It has an active mix of star formation and gas clouds. The light from young energetic stars is slowly transforming cold gas to hot and causing  an ionization front gradually to advance outward.
This picture was taken with Ha, Oiii and Sii (3nm) filters.
