Description

The Nebula NGC 6357, also known as the Lobster Nebula, is a vast star-forming region located in the constellation Scorpius, approximately 8,000 light-years from Earth. Spanning about 400 light-years in diameter, it is one of the largest known nebulae in our galaxy. Composed primarily of gaseous hydrogen excited by the radiation from young and massive stars, the nebula is an active stellar nursery where new stars are in the process of formation. Within it, there are massive stars, some of which are in the final stage before exploding as supernovae. The Nebula NGC 6357 is studied by astronomers to understand the processes of star formation and the evolution of massive stars, through observations in different wavelengths, such as radio, infrared, and X-ray.
