Description

The sky was  tracked using a five panel mosaic panorama. Each panel was made of 5 x 240 second exposures and manually aligned and stacked using median mode with in camera dithering. The Pentax k-1 allows manual shifting of the sensor between images. This is done using image composition function during live view. The in camera dithering gets rid of hot and dead pixels and airplane and satellite artifact and improves noise.

The dunes were captured at dusk as a panorama of multiple images.

The sky and the dunes were manually blended.

The images were captured using a home made panorama head mounted on the AVX mount.

Mosaic panorama of the Milky Way can often produce very unsightly distorted stars particularly at the edges. I tried to minimize such distortions using the home made panorama head and making sure each panel of the mosaic was parallel to the other panels. This method also allows better stitching of the panels using a cylindrical projection.

The displayed image is a smaller version of the 50 Mega Pixel file.
