Description

First real project with my ASI6200MM Pro and modified workflow. Image was taken over three nights in north Seattle, Bortle 7-8. Acquired with NINA using short 1-minute RGB subs to  try to mitigate effects of light pollution., a total of 544 subs after blinking, just over 9 hours. Seeing was pretty good, but hazy. We're already getting whiffs of smoke from our neighbors to the north.

I've been experimenting with my workflow incorporating the new "X" tools - GraXpert, BlurXterminator and NoiseXterminator. Briefly, I used Astro Pixel Processor from calibration through stacking and color combine. APP handles the large number of subs very efficiently (takes advantage of my 24-core Ryzen computer). Exported linear FITS file to GraXpert for background normailization and light pollution correction. Was very pleased with the results at default settings.  I can get pretty good results from APP but it takes a while.

Back into APP for color calibration, saturation and stretching - I'm not really competent enough in doing this in PI. :-) Saved as 16-bit TIFF and loaded into Pixinsight for application of NoiseXterminator. Very satisfied with the results at near-default settings. I cropped the image from 2.4 degrees x 1.6 degrees to 1 degree x 0.7 degrees to focus on the cluster.

Took the cropped image into Photoshop and tweaked with  their Camera Raw tools to slightly darken background and minor sharpening.

Definitely fun to scroll around the full-scale image and see all the tiny galaxies and interacting galaxies
