Description

The southern pinwheel is a grand design spiral galaxy located in the constellation Hydra. It's about 15 million light-years distant. It's one of the best/brightest barred spirals in the sky, even if positioned a bit lower in the sky than we in the northern hemisphere would like. What I like about this capture is the smoothness of the integrated starlight in the outer arms. There are quite a few smaller faint fuzzies in the field. The gas & dust of the inner core region are nicely contrasted vs the bluer and pinker star forming regions located in the primary arms.

I captured this data while visiting the TAAA CAC dark site in AZ over two trips (March and April).

Description: Another try on this data. I've reduced some star bloat, deconvolved a bit more structure in the dust/gas of the arms, and tried to reduce green tint from OSC bayer.
