Description

The Running Chicken Nebula (IC2944).


This image contains the Mag 3 B-type Giant star 'Lambda Centauri', which can be seen in the centre-right of the image as the bright blue star, and this is 470 light years from our sun. The solar radius is 5.5x that of our sun and its 4.5x more massive. This star is positioned far closer to earth than the nebula shown behind it, known as the Running Chicken nebula, which is 6500 light years away spanning a diameter of 100 light years across. Theres also a small planetary nebula (round blue ball in the top-left) known as Hen 2-72. 


Taken over 8 hours on 22.04.2022 from Bortle 6 skies in Melbourne, Australia.
