Description

Probably my most challenging post-processing so far...

I wanted to frame part of Cassiopeia with the well known NGC281 and 2 nebulas I have seen recently in very nice pictures of other astrophotographers, IC63 and IC59. I wanted to tackle it myself, but with less success...

I have taken the L,R,G,B and Ha over 4 nights, in different conditions, sometimes forgetting to make flats between changes of filters, with a very present moon, and in the middle of a 50+ k inhabitants city in the suburb of Paris (with my neighbours having lights in their garden and surrounded by streetlights...).

I bought a license of Pixinsight, and moved from Siril to this wonderful software. Siril was working great, but I had lots of troubles getting rid the gradients of these middle-wide field images, and the crazy chromatic abbertaion coming from the different FWHM of stars between series of filters.... I really love this software so far, it is a nice toolbox.

For the final framing of the picture I have stolen the template of Brice Blanc, that I find very elegant :-) Merci !

My light setup didn't allow me to frame exactly how I wanted, and therefore, the intersection of all my frames have made me lose part of all the fantastic objects that are in this region : particularly the open cluster C13... It is on my pictures, but the cropping didn't include it. Should have shot with a wider lens ! That's also the reason of the diagonal blanck bands on the corner.

Finally, playing with PixInsight, I re-used my Ha, OIII and SII data from my previous shot of NGC 281 with a 346 mm focal length, just to add a blue/green touch in Pac Man and the Ha to get more details on the dust clouds that shapes it (the Mitakon SPeedmaster had nice details, but 85mm cannot compete with 346 mm :-) even when downscaling it to fit inside the wide field of view).
