Description

Photograpphed from my backyard, LDN 935 is one of my favorite of the Lynds Catalog of Dark Nebulae (LDN). Rich in molecular gas and dust, this is a star-forming region for stellar incubation.
Its dense interstellar clouds mask starlight and almost appear as a void, creating striking contrast against the bright emmission nebulae sperating and carving the boundaries of the North America and Pelican emission nebulae.
Object: LDN 935 (Lynds Catalog of Dark Nebulae)
Exposure: 5 min exposures 28 Sii, 42 Ha, 33 Oiii about 8.5 hours total
Bortle scale: 5/6
Optics: AT72EDII
Camera: ZWO ASI294MM Pro
Mount: iOptron CEM 26
Filters: astrodon Sii-3nm Ha-5nm Oiii-3nm
Software: Pixinsight and Photoshop
Notes: LDN 935 is one of my favorite of the Lynds Catalog of Dark Nebulae (LDN). It is so dense it almost appears as a void, creating striking contrast that is separating and carving the boundaries of the North America and Pelican emission nebulae. Processing: I separated the stars with Starnet2 and used a Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch (GHS) in Pixinsight to really bring the light up on this dark nebula to help see what's really going on here. Nebulae are in SHO Hubble palette, and I brought the stars in as HOO palette to show closer to true color of the stars.
