Description

Shot in the past nights previous to the Jellyfish Nebula. This is an object I had originally tried to image last year with my old 8" Newt and an unmodified  Canon T6i. little did I know then and after seeing stacked result I didn't pursue it further. Something like a trunk was however visible with a bit of imagination. This summer I gave a try on it with this same scope combined with my new mono camera because my OSC camera was in repair. Unfortunately I had more cloudy nights and never got to collect enough subs in Ha/Oiii/Sii for me to process a descent image before repaired camera arrived back. Third attempt brought some fruits...

The Elephant Trunk Nebula IC 1396A, is part of a much larger ionized gas region IC 1396 in the constellation Cepheus. It lies approximately 2400 LY from Earth and is now thought to be a birthplace of several young, less then 100,000 years old massive stars discovered through infrared wavelength imaging in 2003.
