Description

SH2-115 is quite a faint emission nebula, although it is only 7,500 light years away. The ionization within the nebula is caused by the young, 100-million-year-old stars in the open cluster Berkeley 90.

I was going for the typical HST SHO pallet, so I first balanced the SHO channels in Startools, then applied the usual selective color adjustments in Photoshop:
G: CY=-100, M=-25
Y: CY=-100, M=25
CY: Y=-100

I was surprised by the variety of color: it seems that each channel contributes nicely to the final image. It did not seem like a traditional HST HSO, but I really liked the color and color contrasts that resulted, so did not touch it with any adjustments. Hope you like it too.

Stars were processed separately and added in PS as a screen layer. The nebulosity was post-processed using APF-R (used by NASA) as a multi-scale unsharp mask to bring out detail. Noise was reduced using NoiseXTerminator.

The image data is from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Robotic Telescope, Sierra Remote Observatories and was taken July-Aug 2021. It is a combination of 12.5 hrs each of Hα and OIII and 11 hrs of SII, all with sub exposures of 30 minutes.  RGB images were 15 minutes for each color of 3 minute sub exposures. There were 5 flats for each RGB image, and 10 for each NB image. Darks and dark flats were also included.
