Description

"Braai in the Sky" - Deep in the heart of the Namibian Great Escarpment lies the Gamsberg mountain range. Concealed in a valley amidst the Gamsberg foothills is the Rooisand Desert Ranch, named for the ancient windblown Kalahari desert sand that renders vivid red tones across its plains. The Ranch has a classic Braai recessed in a stone cove. Pots of oil are hung above it and then the meat is skewered and dipped in it. The Zebra steaks alone are worth flying half way across the planet for !

The glowing orange embers of the Braai reminded me of the swathes of airglow in this scene and this is how it came to be named.

This is a 56 panel panorama of the night sky shot from the far western end of the Rooisand runway on May 17th 2023. Commencing at 22:13 when the galactic plane was sliding along the horizon from west to east.

Shot with a Sigma Art 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM lens and a modded Canon 6D MKII
