Description

Hey boys and girls,
2022 started very slowly in terms of photography. I was stuck in a motivation hole.😒
I let some clear nights pass. Which always annoyed me! (Oh, if only I were last night....!?)
And when I wanted to, the electronics went on strike. I had to fix this with a new USB cable.

In March, however, I was able to pull myself together and decided to tackle a longer project right away. Just to motivate you to keep going.
This was a good decision, I started having fun again! Balm for the SOUL! 🤩

Luckily I wasn't that rusty in image processing.
I edited Ha and OIII separately before merging the data into a color image. The fine clouds in the background weren't exactly easy to work out.
But it's great fun to rummage around in the 16-bit image data of the Atik 383l. Much better than the 12-bit Asi 1600.

In fact, this picture of Sh2-174 is the only one I got ready in the first half of 2022 )
Now it's the summer break and I really hope that my new 10 Lacerta Newton will come soon, which I've been waiting for for almost a year now.

I hope you like my version of Sh2-174. If it's too much for you, Corona is in me right now and is clouding my brain a bit😵

_ps: the Stars are not the best 😖

Sh2-174 or PK 120+18.1 is an enigmatic object.
Sh2-174, or Valentine's Rose Nebula by other names, consists of a planetary nebula and an HII region in the constellation Cepheus. Due to its proximity to the North Star, this object can be photographed all year round. This makes Sh2-174 the northernmost object from the Sharples catalogue.
Sh2-174 is very faint but very large - it is about 20' in diameter and about 1000 light-years distant.
