Description

Cygnus is a wonderland of emission nebulas, planetary nebulas, supernova remnants, and many other objects. I've spent the summer drilling into some of the lesser-imaged objects in this incredible constellation with my big scope, so this is one of several wide angles I'm also working on that contains many of those objects including Sh2-115, Abell 71, the Propeller Nebula, and other unnamed regions such as the Cove (named by Nico Carver), Bo-Peep's Staff (my name), and the Diving Dolphins (also my name).

On WorldWide Telescope

The weather and seeing conditions the last two months here in Dallas have been so good, with both scopes running every night, all night, I've been able to capture 20+ hours on a target an average of every two to three days (four to 6 nights per scope per target). So I have the enjoyable fate of being buried in data right now. I'm going to maximize it as best I can. For these last two months I've been focusing almost exclusively on Cygnus in general and on emission nebulas there in particular. Next summer, I'll do some cleanup on that and go after more challenging targets in Cygnus, like the Methuselah Nebula. But for now, I hope you enjoy the hydrogen-alpha ride!

Here are links to the closeups I've shot from this region:
