Description

NGC 4435 is a compact barred lenticular galaxy which is interacting with its companion NGC 4438. The latter may be a lenticular or spiral galaxy, but it is highly distorted from the interaction. Tidal tails can be seen surrounding its nucleus as well as a dark dust lane. A group of young blue stars appear to the left of the galactic nucleus.

The 2 bright centres of these galaxies give them their nickname The Eyes. The centre NGC 4435 is so bright it appears to have very little detail.

This pair is roughly 50 million light years away.

This is my largest multi year project so far. What did I learn? Make sure you calibrate your light frames after you take them so you don't have to find the relevant flats a year later!
