Description

This is not my best image for many reasons.  Lots of things went wrong and I captured it too late in the season.  This image is responsible for the retirement of my Atik EFW2 which has now failed me too many times with the rubber gasket that goes around the filter carousel coming off leading to needing to remove the imaging train to fix it and orientation being disturbed between nights of imaging.  The seeing and transparency were poor all the nights I was working on this, the target was only in the sky during the worst part of the evening since it was transiting right at astronomical dark and then getting lower as the sky got better over night rather than the reverse.  One night's subs were entirely lost due to clouds coming in unexpectedly after less than an hour imaging.  Processing this image was a nightmare because my luminance flats prior to the camera reorientation were lost due to a drive failure.  Gradients are always a problem for me in LRGB because of how light polluted my area has become.  To top it all off this was my first attempt at a dark nebula, so my processing is not very good and I should have captured more data in the color filters.  This was one of the two final projects I wanted to complete with my ES127 before replacing it on the mount with my new SCA260 in preparation for working on many smaller galaxy projects in the new year.  Since I'm not happy with how it turned out, I plan to revisit this target with a much better FOV on my FSQ-85 setup next year when I can image it all night for many nights and acquire much deeper, cleaner data.
