Description

This rarely imaged irregular galaxy is located 30 million light years away in the constellation of Lacerta at a declination of +40 degrees. This 13th magnitude galaxy spans 1.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 15,000 light years.

Bright blue star clusters are visible on the right side of the galaxy. Some sources say that these are cores, remnants of a merging pair of galaxies, but it doesn't look that way to me. This galaxy is considered to be a starburst galaxy with significant star formation ongoing, seen by the red tint in some regions of the galaxy.

The bright orange star is the foreground object TYC 3203-450-1 located only 5000 light years away, 6000 times closer than the galaxy.

This is the first color image of this object on Astrobin.
