Description

You have now seen plenty of Neowise comet images. I present a little different take with wide field of view that shows faint structure in the distant parts of ion and dust tails. You can see some really peculiar shapes there.

The image was taken yesterday morning in the hills above San Jose, CA during a short window of time between the rise and the start of dawn.

I used a Canon 6D camera on a tripod with 135mm Samyang lens operating at f/2.

The image is a combination of 273 1.6s exposures. Pixinsight stacking was followed by careful gradient reduction to bring out the details in the comet tail. This was followed by some gentle noise reduction and light/color adjustment in Photoshop.

I did not expect to see the amazing detail in both dust and gas tails of the comet given the modest means that I used. The gas tail looks like a sword, I have never seen a shape like this before!

We are so lucky to have a bright comet first time after Hyakutake and Hale-Bopp in 1990s!
