Description

Caldwell 83 or NGC4945 is an edge on barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Centaurus. The galaxy was discovered by James Dunlop from the Paramatta Observatory in 1826 and is thought to be similar to the Milky Way Galaxy.

Caldwell 83 is about 12 million light years distant, and has an apparent magnitude of 9.13, making it quite easy to see with a small telescope.

I found this a challenging target for an LRGB image, since the galaxy colour stubbornly remained brown.  To overcome this, I captured far more data than I would normally need for a Mag 9 galaxy.  A benefit of this high data quantity was that I did not need to use any noise reduction in PS after stacking the image.
