As you’d undoubtedly surmise, this image shows two galaxies undergoing collision and amalgamation. Maybe most interestingly, both galaxies host many young globular clusters. This is somewhat rare, as older stars most globular clusters, implying the clusters have considerable age. The origin of globular clusters has often be debated, but these young ones may indicate that at least some form during galactic collisions when dust cloud-on-dust cloud collisions generate shockwaves compressing the clouds and initiating star formation.
