Description

ISS transit across the almost full Moon from the Kohala Coast of the island of Hawaii Sept. 7, 2022.  I was a fraction of a second slow to start the recording and consequently missed the first part.  The entire transit duration was 0.78 seconds.  The ISS was at a distance of 603km/375miles with a velocity of 7.4 km/sec or 4.5 miles/sec.

Equipment used:  StellarVue 80Access 80mm refractor, AzGTi mount, ASI174MM camera, SharpCap for acquisition.  The AzGTi mount gave me problems while trying to align so I had to turn it off and let the Moon drift through the FOV which contributed to my missing the complete transit.

I used PIPP to output the 51 frames with the ISS as TIF files, ImPPG to align the frames and PIPP again to make the animated gif file.

I used Transit-Finder.com to plan the capture.

I was able to find a pullout on the highway on the projected centerline to set up for the transit.  It crossed Hwy 270 at mile marker 13.5 near Hawi, Hawaii.
