Description

This is NGC-1579, a.k.a. the Little Trifid Nebula. (The "big" Trifid, a.k.a. Messier 20, is much further south in the sky.) The thick dust and ample supply of hydrogen make it an ideal birthing ground for stars, which in turn illuminate the dust and gasses around them. In the constellation of Perseus, about 2100 light-years away, the Little Trifid is about four light-years -- 24 trillion miles -- across. Composed of 5 hours of RGB and 2 hours of H-a, from early December 2021. I definitely spent more time processing this than capturing data, lol.
