Description

Ok, this one was really hard for me because I felt like I did such a good job at the start, then I kept making changes to the colour schemes and liking them more and more and I ended up with over 15 different versions. I tried different techniques before stretching and after to try and solve some key issues and to understand if they compounded later on. I spent like 2 whole days working on version after version, trying to go back and fix older ones, however eventually the environment got so messy with so many different version + starless clones and whatnot.

I think at the end of the day I'm going back to literally the first version I did (go figure!) as it kept the widest spectrum of colour gradients, however the only thing I just couldn't solve (and this goes back to other recent projects) is the space background ends up with an ugly stipple of faint colour. Using only PixInsight, I'm having trouble removing it without making it look janky or too black or also eliminating the faintest traces in the nebula as well. Maybe I need to become a masking master to truly get rid of it, and that is something I admittedly have spent very little time on learning and practicing. I did try a few things with the GAME script, but ended up making an ugly protective bubble whose edges are clearly visible.

I spent time learning the new NBColourMapper script, however it wasn't a version I used. I definitely feel like I'm getting closer and closer to learning some really good stuff and making great pictures, but I've obviously got a long ways to go yet!

I don't even think I sharpened this version, despite doing it in most others, I think I found this softer version to my liking. If I could selectively sharpen, which comes back to masking, I think it could be even better.
