Description

This is another Björn's Classic! ... what's that? That's what you do if you're not planning to swim with the flow.

What did I do? ... Well, I took my unmodified DSLR camera put a UHC clip filter into it in order to capture a Ha region while we still have a substantial moon illumination.
Nowadays wisdom would tell: not a good idea! ... Take a look at the image and let me know if it's a bad idea or not. IMHO, the quality is very good. I admit, it's more than 5 hrs of integration time to get to this point.

Why? .. Because experimenting is fun. Of course, "using a dedicated cooled mono camera employing narrow band filters combined with RGB data" sounds more sophisticated and will give more detail in shorter time. A stock DSLR however is fairly cheap (or in other words: you get a lot of bang for the buck) and can give very good results. The end of the story: if you know how to use your equipment properly, you get something out of it.

Short summary of processing: calibration and integration done in APP (the demosaic algorithm in APP does a very good job). Subsequent steps in PI: DBE, PCC, ... H2O and C3PO
Due to the UHC filter, a proper colour restoration is hardly achievable. Stars are either dominantly red, white or cyan. The filter virtually blocks all deep blue color which is hardly coming back.
All subsequent processing steps after colour calibration are done in Affinity Photo (including denoise and stretching).
