Description

The Draco Trio of galaxies offers astronomers a unique opportunity to study diverse galactic structures and phenomena. NGC 5981 showcases the properties of dwarf elliptical galaxies, NGC 5982 exhibits the distinctive features of barred spiral galaxies, while NGC 5985 presents the intriguing aspects of AGNs (Active Galactic Nuclei). These galaxies are 10, 30 and 70 million light years away, respectively and are coincidentally grouped together. Also seen in the same line is NGC 5976 at a much further 140 million light year distance.

The subframes for this image were collected on May 26, 30 and 31, 2023 through a considerable haze of wildfire smoke perhaps obscuring certain frequencies of visible light. Saturation in PixInsight's CurvesTransformation process was heavily used to bring forth originally weak RGB color.
