Description

Larger than the Milky Way and located 46 million light-years away from Earth, NGC 2841 is a typical spiral flocculent galaxy with the characteristic clumpy or patchy, ill-defined arms, similar to Messier 63 (Sunflower Galaxy). Though it lacks the distinction of having a Messier or Caldwell catalog number assigned to it, NGC 2841 is a worthy circumpolar target even for the Esprit 100 and a DSLR.  Anectdotally, it had also been described as the Tiger's Eye Galaxy.
