Description

This is my first real shot at SHO imaging, after a couple of trial runs that aren't worth posting. Just kind of wandered into this colour palette, which is a softer look than the usual Hubble palette, and which I like a lot.

Processing in PixInsight with final levels and a (substantial) crop in Affinity.

The AT115EDT does a good job, but mine exhibits pretty strong asymmetric star spikes — it looks more like lens flare, I’m not sure what the optical cause of it is. Anyway I really mangled those when processing the stars; deconvolution (BXT) turned them into floating space noodles, easily visible in the full-res image. Need to work on a technique to deal with those!

The Ha and S2 signals on this object are both very strong, and there is gorgeous faint detail running away from the bright central portion, trailing off to the bottom-right and arcing over the top right. I kind of buried that detail when processing this version; it's there, but overwhelmed by the bright center. I'll come back to this data again in the near future and try to boost that, as well as try a few different processing angles.

This is a VERY fun target!
