Description

One of the most recognizable nebulae in the sky, the Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) is an opaque dust cloud in front of an emission nebula of electrons recombining with protons to form hydrogen atoms. To the left is the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024), and just under the horsehead bluish light from the nearby stars shows as a reflection nebula.
