Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, also known as LEDA 11432, is a small faint disturbed galaxy located 200 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -5 degrees.  This magnitude 17 galaxy spans 45 arc-seconds in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 50,000 light years.

In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Galaxies with Narrow Filaments.

This appears to me to be a small spiral galaxy with a long tidal plume.  What created the plume?  No disturbance candidates are anywhere to be seen.  The small galaxy to the left is much further away at about 1 billion light years.

Perhaps this object had a past merger with a small dwarf galaxy and we are seeing the remnants of that.
