Description

I have had this object on my list for some time now, but on a whim, I finally decided to snag some light from the Elephant Trunk Nebula.  And I'm glad I did!  I was incredibly pleased by the data as it came in.  I didn't have high hopes, as it was a little breezy that evening, but I was gifted with some of the best guiding I think I've ever seen with this rig.
I totally underestimated the beauty of this nebula, and I think I have a new favorite in the night sky.  I particularly love the subtle puffs in the clouds, in the surrounding nebulosity.  But, I think my favorite part is all of the forming stars in the trunk (IC 1396A) itself.  Although they're not really visible in this photo, the little hole at the "top" of the trunk is a neat feature that I'm becoming obsessed with.  I imagine it's formed by a newly formed star blowing gas and dust outward, creating this "hole" in the molecular cloud.

Anyway, as always, I'd love any feedback on this photo, or my write-up!
Thanks for looking, and clear skies, y'all!
