Description

The Sagittarius region of the sky is undoubtedly one of astronomers' favorite regions to photograph. Gazing at it, we are looking through a very star-dense region of the Carina-Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way, towards the core of our galaxy. It is unreal how many stars exist within the tiny slice of sky in this image, featuring M24, the Sagittarius Star Cloud. I've shown this one to a few people and several have asked if the dark nebulae in the upper right are black holes. My response was "no... but that would be super cool if they were!" (or super concerning given our proximity to them...).
