Description

The Witch's Broom and Fleming's Triangle, NGC 6960, 6974 and 6979: are part of the Veil Nebula complex in the constellation Cygnus. The nebulae are approximately 1,500 light years away, the remnant of a supernova explosion that occurred roughly 10,000 years ago.
This region shows all the filamentary shock waves of excited Oxygen and Hydrogen gas.  The bright star above the witch's broom is 52 Cygni.
Fleming's/Pickering's Triangle was discovered in 1904 on a photographic glass plate by Williamina Fleming while working at the Harvard College Observatory under the direction of Edward Charles Pickering.
