Description

My first shot of NGC1499 with only 1.5h of data (120x45s). NGC 1499 is the name for a gas nebula in the constellation Perseus, it is also called the Californian Nebula. NGC 1499 lies north of ξ Persei and is also known as the California Nebula because of its shape. The nebula,1000 light-years away, is the closest HII region to us and is a star-forming region. The cloud is probably excited to glow by the nearby star ξ Persei.
