Description

The Prawn of the Sky- O Camarão do Céu -IC4628 - Gum 56 - 6000 ly – 19-05-2013, 01h12m - 1h31m (UTC-3) - RASA 200mm DF 400mm, 9 min exposition.

The Prawn Nebula is located in the scorpion's tail in a region filled with stars in formation, individuals or in clusters. The star IC 4626 (the bright one in the Prawn's tail) is magnitude 7. The surrounding stars are responsible for ionizing the gas and making the nebula glow. The nebula is 6000 light years away and has a diameter of 250 light years. According to the ESO publication, the ultraviolet light emitted from massive white-blue stars is responsible for making the nebula glow (Young Stars Cooking in the Prawn Nebula | ESO).
