Description

HaRGB image with RGB stars.
Spent some time on the stretch to make sure the mask showed up nicely,
and not overwhelmed and faded into the background Ha nebulosity of which there is a considerable amount.

Sh2 -173 is an emission nebula visible in the constellation Cassiopeia . It is an H II region with a diameter of 77 light years , located about 2700  parsecs (about 8800 light years) away. It is located on the Perseus Arm, one of the major spiral arms of the Milky Way, in contact with a large superbubble with a diameter of 380 parsecs, created by the stellar wind of the association's high-mass stars. It contains a large number of young stars, of which there are at least 7 among the main ones responsible for the ionization of gas , the hottest of which is cataloged as BD+60 39, a blue star of spectral class O9V; it would be part of a large star-forming region located near the Cas OB5 association, to which nearby nebulae are also connected, as well as the open clusters NGC 103 and the radio wave source KR 98, plus the dark nebula LDN  1282.
