Description

IC 426 is a reflection nebula in the vicinity of the more well known and imaged Horsehead and Flame nebulae. This is an eerie, ghostly bluish nebula reflecting scattered light from bright stars nearby (the red light is absorbed by dust in the nebula). Mintaka, the westernmost star in the belt of Orion, is thought to be the star illuminating IC 426.

It was a challenge to process this image, I chose to keep the wider field and the small galaxies details too. The Ha bands are intriguing as well.

This is seldom imaged and thank you to Mike Selby for acquiring this data.
