Description

This is a 12h LRGBHa close-up image of the Horsehead Nebula (also known as Barnard 33). It is is a dark nebula in the shape of the head of a horse located in the large active star-forming H II region called IC 434 in constellation Orion below Alnitak in Orion's Belt.  The reflection nebula NGC 2023 is in the lower left corner of the image.  In the processing, I strived to bring out the many thin filaments throughout this image that I could see in the data.

The 12 hrs of LRGBHa data used in this image were collected by DeepSkyWest with their CDK17 scope in Rio Hurtado, Chile, in Sept.-Nov. 2023.
