Description

VdB 4 is a reflection nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is associated with the very young open star cluster NGC 225, the Sailboat Cluster. The nebula are probably remains of the cloud that formed the cluster.

Title: Reflections in Cassiopeia

Description: vdB 4

This image consists of 261 4 minute exposures taken in my WNC bortle 4 backyard using my RC8 telescope at 1625mm, an ASI071MC astrophotography camera, and a skywatcher EQ6r Pro german equatorial mount. I use the APT software product for image acquisition and Pixinsight to manually create and process the image.

I was drawn to this target by NGC225, the Sailboat Cluster of open stars. The combination of reflection nebula and large dark nebula structures along with hues of red, yellow, browns, and blues provide a unique depth and an eary feel to the image. More evidence that space is not black, especially our milky way galaxy.

VdB 4 is a reflection nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is associated with the very young open star cluster NGC 225, the Sailboat Cluster. The nebula is probably remains of the cloud that formed the cluster. The distance to the cluster and the nebula is estimated at about 2000 ly.

VdB 4 is centered on the variable star V594 Cas. There is some confusion about the bright nebula LBN 604. Simbad indicates the position of this nebula just northeast of VdB 4 (designations can be seen in the astrobin platesolved annotated version via the link). But nothing similar to bright nebula could be found at this position. Most probably LDN 604 refers to the brightest part of VdB 4.
