Description

A series of 4 consecutive clear (but very short) summer nights gave me the opportunity to get 2 astrobin debuts (I think). The first one is NGC 6154. This is a really interesting SBa galaxy. It is at a distance of about 276 Mly, and of considerable size (about 170 000 ly across). And it really exhibits quite a number of interesting features: an active galactic nucleus, a very prominent bar, interesting tightly wound (or bifurcated) spiral arms that continue in a lob sided more irregular outer features, and probably even some shells, indicative of tidal interactions/mergers with its environ. Furthermore, there is a nice group of galaxies in lower right to NGC 6154. Certainly this object deserves more nights and is worth to come back, possibly next spring.

Data were taken on July 5,6,7 and 8.
