Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a group of spiral galaxies located in the constellation of Andromeda at a declination of +29 degrees.

NGC 27 is the brightest galaxy in the frame.  It is a magnitude 14 galaxy located 300 million light years away which spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 120,000 light years.

Just to the right of NGC 27 is UGC 95, also known as PGC 731.  This is a superthin, exactly edge-on galaxy with a beautiful dust lane.  It is further away at 0.5 billion light years and is a huge galaxy, at 240,000 light years in diameter.  Just above this galaxy is another faint edge-on galaxy, much smaller and further away.

In the lower left of the image is the wonderful barred ring spiral, UGC 105 (PGC 791).  It is 270 million light years away.  I love the slight unusual curvature to the bar.

Numerous other background galaxies are identified in the mouseover.
