Description

I decided to combine my data of the Heart Nebula from Y2020 together with my new data from Y2021 and see what happens.

Here is what I did:
- In Y2020 I imaged the Heart Nebula in a period of 4 nights. Back then I imaged with an ASI533 so the object did not fit in my field of view. So I made four separate frames and combined them as a mosaic. I used Melotte 15 as a reference point. Average integration per frame was 6 hours and this accumulated the integration for Melotte 15 up to 24 hours. Back then I imaged with the L-Extreme.
- In Y2021 I imaged with the ASI2600MC-Pro together with the IDAS NBZ Filter. This time I could fit the whole object in my FOV so I used only one night - close to 9 hours of data.
- The combination of data (the mosaic from Y2020 + the new image from Y2021) was done in Pixinsight through GradientMergeMosaic using the Average type of combination. As per the website of PI:

Average

In this mode, images are stacked on top of each other, with the last images being partially transparent. The intensity of a pixel is the average of all non-background pixels at a given location. This mode further smoothens the differences between images, and also improves the signal-to-noise ratio on overlapping regions. The order of images in the file list does not matter in this case.

The combination of the data improved the signal and reduced the noise. I processed again and like the result. Noise is almost non-existent and the cloud formations are great!

Clear skies!
Ivan
