Description

I took delivery of my first dedicated astronomy camera (2600MC Pro) a few days back and the very next day had the opportunity to get to grips with it, even managed to grab a few test exposures resulting in this image.

This was really just a test to get used to using the camera but I'm blown away, especially given the circumstances. Yes it's noisy but it's only a little over two hours of integration time, under a full moon and isn't even properly calibrated as I haven't had the time yet to begin building a dark library.

I had actually started off with my normal 300 second exposures but the histogram in APT threw me off, it turns out that it's displayed differently when using a CMOS/CCD camera but the peak of the data appeared to be right against the left hand side of the graph. Not knowing why I thought the data was being clipped so switched to 600 seconds exposures instead just to see what the difference would be. I've since worked out that the histogram in APT was being compressed so it wasn't clipping at all.

Given the above I'm really pleased and can't wait to begin my first proper imaging project with this camera and some long integration times.

I would welcome any comments/advice/criticism.

Description: A reprocess and my first time trying to use Pixinsight.

I think I've realised two things this week.
1) My processing has a tendency to be too heavy handed, it's not until I look at my image the next day that I realise I've totally overdone it.
2) I need much longer integration times if I want to achieve the sort of images I aspire to.
