Description

I have finally taken an object that does not appear as listed in the catalogues on my mount's handset... indeed an object that is not that easy to image, due to its relative faintness. Because I cannot plate solve, the only way I could find this pn was to look at someone else's picture, then look at the bright stars in it, and then having put in the coordinates on the handset, let the scope move to that position, and then try to align my stars to what the picture presented. I started with the RGBs, and at 60s per sub there literally was no sign at all of Abell 39, but I felt confident that I was in the correct area, and pretty certain it was where I thought it was. I took 42 subs in RGB for the colour, and then later, just as my exhaustion was taking hold, I slotted in the OIII filter and took 61 four minute subs. I can honestly say that when the first OIII sub came up, I was so pleased to see the object right where I thought it probably would be. Capturing it was thus not easy, but processing the data was actually easier than I thought! Swings and roundabouts... I think this is such a beautiful object, and I love its sphericity and colour. I am really pleased to have got this. The imaging time was thus 4 hours and 46 minutes. Have a good night everyone, thanks for looking.
