Description

The Dumbbell Nebula!

My first visit. 4 hours total integration. 1,360 light-years away.

Also known as Messier 27, The Dumbbell Nebula is a planetary nebula, which is the result of a dying star shedding its outer layers. It offers a glimpse into the fate of our Sun in the very distant future.

M27 is one of the brightest planetary nebulae, which is why I was able to get such a bright and contrasty shot with only 4 hours on target.
