Description

Using a focal reducer on my refractor allowed me to capture M 87 along with Markarian's Chain. I wanted to include M 87 not only because of its significance to the Virgo cluster (it is the gravitational center), or to radio astronomy (it contains the Virgo A radio source), but because the black hole it contains is the first in history to be directly imaged. That monumental feat was accomplished by the Event Horizon Telescope in 2017. The image was released in 2019.
