Description

IC1318a is an odd designation, given that IC1318 is the famous Butterfly/Sadr Nebula, and this is simply a nearby, but clearly separate, object. It’s not actually an entry in the IC catalog, and I can’t find the source of the “a” designation–if anyone knows where that started, please let me know. Thankfully, does have its own proper catalog ID: DWB82. But more recently, it’s become known as The Longhorn Nebula, which is a little more memorable.
