Description

This was a fun but incomplete project of shooting the whole Ursa Major with my Canon 200mm + Asi 1600mm.

Capture
I shot 36 panels in one night of Ursa Major. To be sure to complete the panels I opted for 10 mins exposure via 10x60sec per panel with the Canon stopped down at f/3.5
  • each panel was stacked in APP
  • each panel was DBE in Pix
  • moasic all panels in APP
  • processing in pix

Unfortunately after the flip I have gaps for panels 25 to 36 due to cone error. I then only present here 24 panels.

From the 24 panels I made an annotated version (Messier and NGC catalogs). There are a lot of galaxies with different shapes  (face one, elliptical...) in this area. Here is a short sample but if you take time to roam throughout the image you'll find many others

You may think this is not impressive but remembrer I shot only 10mins per panel under insane LP.

When I say insane I mean INSANE, I used ASTAP to map the LP of my location (Paris, France)

Yop you read  SQM17.05 to SQM18.07 at 86° alt..... welcome
And if  you are curious about what the stack looked like out of APP before I DBE each panel there you go  (18 panels)

Each time I read about people whining about LP whereas they have B3/B4 skies and then rush to pay for remote data it just makes me smile....

And in case you wonder how this area looks like when adding the PGC catalog, I offer you a sneak peek!
