Processed two ways, SHO and HSO (see revisions for HSO).

I really like both, though for different reasons. My oldest kid said the SHO was like a rainbow, which is why I like it of course. All the colors. But the HSO is closer to what it would look like, red, and shows some really cool contrast in the nebula.

This took a while to capture as well as process as I spent a lot of time trying to figure out some problems with stars in the processing. I finally sorted it out well enough a couple of nights before publishing. Of course over the month of collecting the data I've been fiddling with the setup since it's pretty new, and maybe the later data is better for the stars.. I don't know, it's good enough, not going to look too much closer :)

Title: California Nebula in HSO

Description: Wanted a more natural color image (aka red) and landed with this HSO based blend. S2 and O3 mixed in the G and B channels with S2 dominating in G, O3 dominating in B.

Description: Applied latest workflow and get brighter blues, a less "harsh" feel with less dark structure, and marginally better stars. Tried Ha as L and didn't like it though stars were tighter. Stuck with synthetic L. Almost went with the stars from HaSHO in the sLSHO but decided it went too far. Got a similar effect running one more round of star reduction too. But preferred the "normal" single reduction on the extracted sLSHO stars.

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
