Description

Did you know that space is full of "bubbles"?

Not surprisingly, there's a lot of stuff up there that likes to go BOOM! And, when it does, it usually expands in all directions. It could be a violent supernova remnant like the Veil or Spaghetti nebulae, or a star shedding its mass into an expanding planetary nebula like the Helix. In the case of this object, a particularly massive star is pushing its solar wind in all directions and shaping the nearby elements into a round emission nebula.

Just like popcorn, these forces can create objects of varying forms, but at a dizzying scale. This particular beauty has the unique distinction of being known as THE Bubble Nebula.

Also known as NGC7635, Sharpless 162 and Caldwell 11, it sits in the constellation of Cassiopeia. The bright 8.7 magnitude star inside that's doing all the heavy lifting is known as SAO20575.

I've posted a few edits of this object since getting my EdgeHD this summer, but I recently added a ton of additional data. It now includes just under 18 hours of exposure with the following breakdown:

4h 10' - Hydrogen
4h 30' - Sulphur
8h 10' - Oxygen
1h 00' - RGB for the stars

Not an easy edit. It can be hard to isolate the bright nebula from the stars in its core... but I think I did alright this time 👍

Hope you enjoy it!
